I was delighted to return to the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum  for this episode of Past Matters. I had the pleasure of visiting this stunning building crammed with amazing arts and artefacts last year when I did an episode about the Lucy Kemp-Welch exhibition they put on.

I knew I needed to come back and explore their permanent collection in greater detail, so here we are with an episode about some artifacts from 19th century Japan, which proved a wonderful platform for further discussion with curator Duncan Walker about the growth of the tourism industry, the art of collecting, Japan’s changing society, and the lives of the museum’s founders Sir Merton and Lady Russell-Cotes.
