While you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, you can’t deny that clothes can reveal a lot about a person, or a period in history, as I found out when I visited Blandford Fashion Museum.   Curator Katie Godman-Sinclair picked a Regency spencer as her underrated item in the museum – a garment very recognisable for those Jane Austen and Bridgerton fans. 

This relatively small jacket can tell us about body shape, economics and politics of the time, proving once again that so many great stories from the past are modestly waiting for you to discover them in museums so be careful to not overlook them.
